Christmas Tree Ornaments

Posted on: August 18, 2011

Christmas tree Ornaments are small decorations, usually made of glass, wood, ceramics or metal, which are displayed on indoor trees during the winter holiday season. They are often symbolic, displaying images of Santa Claus, candy canes, or religious imagery, but may also take the form of baubles or spheres.

Ornaments are often purchased or made in order to commemorate special events in someone's life in a particular year. Hallmark and American Greetings produce some of the most popular Christmas Tree Ornaments each year. Current ornaments have gotten increasingly complicated and technologically advanced. There are now ornaments that light up, ornaments that move and ornaments that can display digital images.

Christmas tree ornaments are a way to express sentimentality as well as individuality.

Popular Types of Christmas Tree Ornaments

  1. Illuminated: Ornaments which contain a tiny bulb and light up to show winter scenes or miniature dioramas. These tend to be more expensive than standard ornaments.
  2. Mobile: Ornaments which move or have moving elements, such as bobbing snowmen or nodding Santas.
  3. Musical: Ornaments which play Christmas songs or hymns.
  4. Homemade: Ornaments made by children or as a crafting project are always popular, and make a great keepsake.
